Our History Isn’t Just About Materials
Simkins Lumber started as a small but determined venture nestled in the rugged landscapes of West Yellowstone, Montana. Founded in 1946 by Bob and Jean Simkins, our company grew from a modest lumber yard into the backbone of Montana’s building industry. With resilience, hard work, and an unbreakable commitment to quality, the Simkins family built a business that has helped shape communities across Montana.
By 1950, Simkins-Hallin expanded operations to Bozeman, meeting the needs of a growing agricultural town. For 43 years, the Simkins yard on North Wallace Street was more than just a place to pick up supplies—it was a hub for builders, homeowners, and craftsmen alike, where the quality of your work mattered more than the title on your name tag. When the time came to expand further, we relocated to North Broadway in 1993, a move that kept us true to our commitment to service and quality while providing the space to grow.
Today, nearly 80 years since our founding, Simkins Lumber is led by the third and fourth generations of the Simkins family. We continue to honor the legacy that started with Bob and Jean, embracing new technologies, sustainable practices, and innovative solutions to meet the evolving needs of Montana’s builders. Our history isn’t just about materials—it’s about the families, communities, and futures we help build.
